Aulicontains a slope of 3 kms from the height of 3049 meters to 2519 meters and experts consider it as one of the best skiing slopes in the world. Alpine Tourism Promotion Council has equated the Auli slopes as the second largest in Asia and one of the best slopes in the world. The snow beaters are also available here to keep the snow soft and skiable. The splendid view of snowcapped great Himalayan Mountains also fills thrill among nature lovers and skiers. Auli boasts of the longest ropeway cable car in Asia covering 4 kms distance and is perfect for reaching the Auli’s higher slopes while feeding the eyes with beautiful nature near Gondola. One can go in this cable car to Auli from Joshimath which costs around Rs.400/- for return ticket fare and takes around 20 minutes. This ropeway helps tourists to explore the region with unparalleled and distinctive experience. After reaching Auli, One can go to Auli’s Clifftop Club via 800 meters long chair-lift and skiers can go from here to skiing point through another ski-lift. Both lifts connects to the upper and lower slopes available for skiing. The chair-lift has international standard remote controlled hydolic and pneumatic system which makes the traveller a safe feeling while travelling in it. One can go to Auli also via road and there are good numbers of buses and taxis available for Auli from Joshimath. The skiing season is from December to March and if you want to learn the skiing then you can contact Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) for 7 days or 15 days skiing course. There are good numbers of skiing trainers are available in Joshimath who lead trainee skiing groups on daily basis. There are four type of skiing slopes are available in Auli and one can try it according to the level of experience in skiing. These slopes are:
1-White – This slope is 900 meters long and is called trek no-10.
2-Blue – This slope is 800 meters long and is called trek no-8.
3-Red – It is also called temple trek and is 400 meters long and best for ski beginners.
4-Composite – This slope is 3.1 kms long and used by the experienced skiers with many challenges.
There are two good places to stay in Auli. The one is from GMVN and other is Clifftop Club. The Clifftop Club is situated at the height of 10000 feet on 8th pole of the cable car ropeway and is second highest resort in the world and is only the skiing resort in the world at such height. It provides all kind of facilities including 25 luxury studios, 16 luxury suites, 2 family suites and furnished with sofa-cum-bed, partial kitchenette, microwave oven, refrigerator, television with satellite connection, telephone and oil-heat radiators. It also contains multi cuisine restaurant named Al fresco, Skedoo, a coffee shop and snacks bar and open air barbeque and considered heaven for skiers. This club also provides pick-up and drop facilities from Joshimath for the travellers.
